About the building
Modern life from Historic Foundations
The south building has a rich history since its construction in the late 1800’s. The earliest record, the Sanborn survey shows the southernmost building, facing 18th street being a laundry and dairy/creamery. During this period, small row houses existed in the location of our current parking lot. As the years continued, a second building (the middle single-story building) was added, and the row houses were demolished. The subsequent addition of a 2-story building connected to the north continued during the 1950s. The third floor was constructed in 2008 above the southern and northern buildings, connecting with a bridge between the two sides. Each addition reflects the architectural style of the time and the building’s ongoing evolution alongside the dynamic changes within the city itself.
